Professional Background:
Mr. Peralta is the Head of the Firm’s Corporate Practice Group with particular emphasis on Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT).
Mr. Peralta has extensive experience in M&A, having managed a leading consumer paper firm’s acquisition of a competitor and conducted due diligence for further takeovers. He has handled IPOs for top companies in electrical distribution, broadcasting, real estate, and led an international offering for a gold mining company. Additionally, he has organized multiple joint ventures between foreign and domestic firms across sectors such as power, food service, retail, manufacturing, IT, and vehicle production.
He has provided legal representation to clients across a broad spectrum of matters, including intra-corporate disputes, insolvency proceedings, corporate rehabilitation, contested tax assessments, unfair competition, and trademark and patent infringement. He has successfully argued before the Supreme Court in a landmark case involving foreign ownership concerns related to the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company, acting as counsel for the petitioner.
Mr. Peralta offers strategic, business-oriented, and innovative legal counsel for the commercialization and deployment of groundbreaking technologies and business models in both domestic and international markets. He brings substantial expertise in guiding clients through regulatory, licensing, and legal complexities faced by start-ups and established industry leaders expanding into emerging markets. Mr. Peralta delivers practical legal solutions tailored to clients’ business objectives while ensuring full compliance with applicable regulations. His clients represent a wide range of sectors, including software development, online retail, cloud storage, digital media, broadcasting, wireless satellite and cable operations, online networks, publishing, film production, composition, and advertising.
Practicing intellectual property law since 1987, Mr. Peralta is an active member of several professional organizations, including IPAP, APAA, ITECHLAW, INTA, IPRO, IPAA and LESP. He was the president of LESP from 2015-2017 and remains a director. Mr. Peralta handles IP prosecution, litigation, arbitration, and agreements in technology, IP, and data privacy. He has drafted contracts for software, hardware, internet, and IT, and is experienced in outsourcing and online services. He also manages government procurement projects for international clients with agencies such as the Commission on Elections, Land Transportation Office, and Bureau of Immigration.
Mr. Peralta, a member of the Philippine Bar, earned his law degree from the University of the Philippines in 1986 and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the same institution. He has also completed certificate courses in Corporate Finance through the Euromoney Institute and in Transnational Law at the University of Hong Kong.
Mr. Peralta is presently a faculty member at the De La Salle University – Tañada-Diokno School of Law, where he teaches courses in Corporation Law, Commercial Laws 1 and 2, Credit Transactions, Cyber Law, Intellectual Property Law, Land Titles & Deeds, Mergers & Acquisitions, and Real Estate Transactions. He served as Associate Dean from 2018 to 2022. On January 7, 2014, Mr. Peralta was awarded the Ricardo J. Romulo Professorial Chair for Commercial Law. In 2001, he received an Honorary Membership from the Association of Fellows and Legal Scholars of the Center for International Studies in Vienna, Austria. Additionally, Mr. Peralta participated in the Intellectual Property Rights-Management Training Program in Tokyo, Japan, in February 2002 as an ASEAN Overseas Training Scholar, sponsored by the Japan Patent Office.
He is the author of the Philippine section in International Telecommunications Law, published by BNA in London, United Kingdom, and co-author of the Philippine section in Global Privacy and Security Law, released by Aspen Publishers/Wolters Kluwer. Since 2005, Mr. Peralta has been consistently recognized by Asia-Pacific Legal 500 and Asia Law Profiles for his expertise in Corporate Law, M&A, and Intellectual Property. Furthermore, since 2018, he has been acknowledged by Asia IP and Who’s Who Legal as a leading practitioner in Technology Law. In 2024, ASIA IP named him an Intellectual Property Expert in Information Technology and Telecommunications (asiaiplaw.com), and in 2025, WHO’S WHO LEGAL recognized him as a Global Leader in Data and Information Technology (whoswholegal.com).
